The Good Lab uncovered a clear opportunity to leverage the emerging sharing economy and the desire of young people to give more than just money, to help our ageing population.

The challenge

Social care for the elderly is on the verge of collapse. Incumbents can’t meet the challenge of providing care at the scale and price that is required for our ageing population. Good Innovation saw a clear opportunity to leverage the emerging sharing economy and the desire of young people to give more than just money.

The solution

onHand is a mobile app that matches people who need help with people who want to help. It allows relatives to search for and buy help from verified volunteers whilst providing the on-demand generation with local micro-volunteering opportunities.

We built onHand from insight through to spinning out as a standalone business. We ran trials across 3 areas in the UK, tested different business models & governance structures and built a mobile app, spending 3 months in the Facebook accelerator in 2018 (selected as 1 of 7 businesses from 180+)
